BASDA, the UK Business Application Software Developers’Association, is working with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to raise awareness of its activities in support of its goal to revive application programming skills with students and spark a new wave of young software developers.
BASDA members recognise the impact that the Raspberry Pi Computer will have in developing UK talent by creating a new and genuine enthusiasm for programming skills, making it both accessible and compelling for young people to create their own apps at home.
Robert Mullins, co-founder and trustee of the Cambridge-based Raspberry Pi Foundation, explains:
“The goal was to build a low-cost computer that every child could own, to get them interested in programming and appreciate what they can create themselves.”
Kevin Hart, Chairman of BASDA, comments:
“This is a brilliant UK innovation that will also support the new computer science curriculum in schools, giving our children early exposure to programming skills. The software application sector plays an important part in driving the UK economy and, for BASDA members, it is vital that we foster application skills and talent to avoid a serious skills gap in the UK.”
Robert Mullins will be speaking about the Raspberry Pi project at the BASDA Software Thought Leaders’ Summit event on 15th May 2012.
