“Those waiting to hear more detail on the death of the annual tax return will need to hold their breath, as HMRC go under a Purdah which will last until the end of the election. ” writes Rachel Power in her recent Accountingweb post.
HMRC met with BASDA just prior to Purdah, but no further information can be released until after the General Election on May 7th.
Discussions embraced known plans regarding the end of the tax return and the likely longer-term developments to align tax payments made by the self-employed to a basis that is closer to PAYE. We expect these discussions to reconvene after 7 May.
