Our Member of the Month feature celebrates our members and the work they do. This month we’re taking a look at Bottomline Technologies – in conversation with Martin Weller, Product Manager
Tell us about Bottomline Technologies
The ability to pay and get paid is critical for every business. But business payments are inherently complex and getting more so every day, making it difficult for organisations to create a business payments strategy that helps them be successful.
Bottomline Technologies eliminates that struggle by helping companies make complex business payments simple, smart and secure. Corporations and Banks worldwide rely on Bottomline for domestic and international payments, efficient cash management, fraud detection, regulatory compliance and more.
PT-X Payments and Business Solutions Suite is a cloud-based Bacs and Faster Payments solution that securely manages payments and collections for both bureau (indirect) and direct submitters. PT-X offers organisations the ability to process payments and collections from any location using secure, cloud-based technology, giving increased mobility and flexibility when processing payroll and supplier payments or Direct Debit (DD) collections.
When did Bottomline Technologies join BASDA?
Not completely sure, but we have been a member of BASDA for a number of years and I am now a BASDA Council member!
Why did Bottomline Technologies join BASDA?
Even though BASDA has an accounting / payroll / pension focus, they all process payments so it has been good to keep in the loop.
What value has BASDA brought to your business?
BASDA provides great industry knowledge and opens the door to lots of different contacts. The yearly summit is always really useful to find out what other people are doing in regards to the different topics that BASDA champions – it’s always educational.
Are there any particular topics that BASDA is championing that you are particularly interested in and why?
There are some hot industry topics around security/payment fraud and future of payments industry. Faster Payments, open banking, GDPR and PSD2.
What are the current challenges within your industry and how is BASDA helping your company as the voice of industry?
One of the biggest challenges we are facing in our industry is that the payments landscape is changing dramatically. The next 5 years will see new legislation evolving which Bottomline must keep abreast of – from Open Banking, GDPR, PSD2 to the New Payment Architecture due from 2020.
Whilst a challenge being a part of BASDA gives Bottomline the opportunity to be thought leader in the payments industry.
Are you an active member of any of BASDA’s SIG groups? If so which one and why?
We were very active during HMRC RTI project. This gave us the opportunity to represent the Bacs supplier community, and was also useful for making contacts.
Can you offer any advice to BASDA members?
We have found that the key is to stay up to date with industry developments. There are so many things that are set to affect our products and the way we work so being a part of BASDA helps us to make sure we are prepared and ready for the changes.
